Description
Antique lithograph of 1877 Vanity Fair illustration for its Men of the Day column. This illustration was number 167 of the column. This illustration by Carlo Pelligrini (as noted by his pseudonym “Ape” signed on the illustration lower right) is of Sir Allen William Young, CB, CVO (12 December 1827 – 20 November 1915). Young was an English master mariner and explorer, best remembered for his role in Arctic exploration including the search for Sir John Franklin. Lithograph was published by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son. Framed in black and gold and professional matted. Last framing appears to have been sometime in the last mid century. New wire recently added. Excellent condition except for the frame which has some denting as shown. This is an excellent gift for a stylish man to hang in his home, office, or man cave and an especially nice gift for sailor or man who enjoys history. Frame: 20 x 14.5 x 1 view: 14 x 8
