We're excited to pilot our new Fashion Exchange program for the month of July! This program is designed to make buying and selling pre-loved fashion on Mercari even better. Now you will be able to try on the item and if it doesn’t fit, you can exchange it for a Mercari credit. Sellers will receive payment as usual; the exchange program will not affect their earnings.
How do I know if an item is eligible for the Fashion Exchange Program?
Eligible Women's, Men's, and Kids' clothing items (up to $100) are clearly labeled with a banner on the Item Detail Page and at checkout. See below for specific categories.
Which return reasons are covered under the Fashion Exchange program?
The Fashion Exchange program allows you to exchange your order for fit or smell issues. You are still covered with our Return Policy.
Are international fashion items eligible for exchange?
International shipments are excluded from the Fashion Exchange program.
How to request an exchange?
You still have 3 days from the delivery date to contact Mercari to request an exchange. Simply tell us why you’re requesting to exchange your item and include photos of the packaging, label and the item(s).
- Go to your order from the app or website and request a return.
- We will email you a return label to ship the item to Mercari.
- You will have 3 business days to drop off the package to UPS or UPS Access Point.
- Once we confirmed the return order, a credit will applied to your account.
- You will be reimbursed in credit for the item price, shipping, buyer protection fee, buyer paid shipping and the applicable sales tax.
Can I exchange a portion of my order?
You will need to exchange the entire order.
What if I missed the exchange period?
We will not accept exchange requests after 3 days from the delivery date.
How long do I have to drop off my package?
You have 3 business days from when the exchange is approved to drop off your package at UPS.
How does the credit work?
The credit can be applied to all purchases made on Mercari. You will have 30 days from the issuance date to use the credit. The credit cannot be reissued once they expire.
Can I exchange a bundle order?
For a bundle order where all items are eligible for the Fashion Exchange, you will be able to exchange the entire order. A bundle order with ineligible item(s) does not qualify for the Fashion Exchange.
Why wasn’t my order eligible for the exchange?
Fashion Exchange is for fashion items in the eligible categories listed below and the item price is $100 or less.
Non-fashion items are not eligible for exchange, even if placed in an eligible category. Mercari will be inspecting items to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria. Return policy will apply.
Why didn't I receive my credit for the exchange?
Mercari reserves the right to deny an exchange in the event that: (i) the item that is sent to Mercari, in Mercari’s sole discretion does not match the item for which the exchange is requested; (ii) not all the items from the order was returned; (iii) there has been a breach of the Mercari Terms of Service; and/or (iv) Mercari suspects that the return is part of some form of fraud, promotion abuse, collusion or other action in violation of the Mercari Terms of Service. Mercari reserves the right to remove any credit if we determine that it was obtained through a violation of the Terms of Service. In some cases, Mercari may require additional information to fulfill an exchange request.

Fashion Exchange Program Terms of Service
Between July 1, 2025 at 12:00am PDT and July 31, 2025 at 11:59pm PDT (“Eligibility Period”) Mercari is testing a new Fashion Exchange program that will provide buyers with an exchange option for fashion purchases in specific categories for women, men or children where the item price is $100 or less (“Eligible Items”). If a fashion item that is sought to be exchanged is part of a bundle purchase that also includes both fashion and non-fashion items, or any item price is above $100, the fashion item will not be eligible for an exchange as part of the Fashion Exchange program.
For fashion items that will not fit under Mercari’s standard return criteria and that are approved for exchange as part of the Fashion Exchange program, such as the item does not fit or the item has a smell, Mercari will issue your account Mercari credits that will expire 30-days after issuance to purchase another item on the platform. Please note that for fashion item returns that fall within Mercari’s current return criteria such as the item is not as described or counterfeit, Mercari standard return process will apply.
In order to be eligible to for the Fashion Exchange program, the following criteria must be met: (i) the fashion item must have been purchased within the Eligibility Period; (ii) the fashion item to be exchanged must be an Eligible Item; (iii) if the Fashion Exchange involves a bundle purchase and all items within the bundle are eligible for the Fashion Exchange program, then all items within the bundle must be returned and (iv) you must contact Mercari customer support within the 72-hour window following receipt of the item to request an exchange. If the exchange is approved, Mercari will complete the transaction so that the seller can be paid and the customer support representative will provide you with instructions regarding how the item should be sent to Mercari for the exchange.
After Mercari receives the item for exchange, a Mercari customer service representative will review and inspect the item to make sure that it matches the item that has been requested for exchange. If the customer service representative approves the exchange after reviewing the returned item, Mercari will issue Mercari credits with a 30-day expiration period. The credits will be in your account within 24 hours of issuing the credit. You will be issued Mercari credits that will include the purchase price of the returned item minus the value of any coupons that have been applied, Buyer Protection Fee for the item and if the item is not part of a bundle, the Buyer Paid Shipping Fee and applicable sales tax. You can then use the Mercari credits to exchange for another item on the platform.
