Our stolen property policy

Listing or selling stolen property is strictly forbidden on Mercari as it violates state, federal, and international law.

Stolen property includes:
  • Items taken from private individuals
  • Property taken unlawfully or without authorization from companies or governments
  • Property purchased from someone that was obtained unlawfully. This includes items or property which has been sold, re-sold, and/or traded where it should have been known by the buyer that the item was stolen e.g. well below market value, missing receipts, or other indicators.

    If you believe a listing on Mercari contains stolen property, please report the listing here.


    For Mercari users

    If you believe merchandise has been stolen from you and then listed on Mercari, please contact your local police to report the incident.

    They’ll give you a police report number, which you can then report to Mercari for further help.

    When you have the police report number, please report the listing to Mercari here.


    For brand owners and retailers

    If you believe your stolen merchandise is being sold on Mercari, please fill out this form.


    For law enforcement & other government agencies

    If you require supporting information related to a claim, please refer to our policy on subpoenas and requesting customer information here.


    Note: California residents may additionally report suspected stolen goods here.
