Age Verification FAQ

Parental/Guardian Verification

Why am I being prompted to verify my account with a parent/guardian?

If you are between the ages of 13-17, a parent’s or guardian’s approval is required for you to be able to use Direct Deposit or Instant Pay. You will be contacted by us within 3 business days of creating your account with instructions on what to do next. Don’t worry, it’s quick and easy and you’ll only have to do it once.

I’m a parent/guardian and I’m unable to add my bank account information or payment method to my child’s account

Bank and payment information is only able to be attached to a single Mercari account. A unique account and payment method will be needed for your child’s account. Please note that if you attach these methods to your child’s account, they will not be able to be added to another Mercari account in the future.

I incorrectly entered my date of birth, can this be updated?

In order to confirm your date of birth, we will need you to submit your valid identification. Please contact us for an Account Specialist to review your concern. In the meantime, you may submit your identification by visiting the Verifications section within the app.

What does my parent/guardian need to do in order to provide consent?

Your parent/guardian will need to provide a valid US-issued identification with the prompt that has been initiated by Mercari. They will also need to acknowledge their willingness to supervise your use of the account.

What if my parent/guardian is not willing to provide their identification?

Parent/guardian consent is required since you are between the age of 13-17. If they are not willing to provide consent, unfortunately you will not be able to maintain a Mercari account. Please remember to reach out again when you reach the legal age of 18 and we will be more than happy to help set up your account!
