What can I sell on Mercari?

Almost anything. If it ships, you can most likely sell it. We do have a bunch of things that may not be sold on Mercari (Prohibited Items). This includes things you don’t own. Illegal things like drugs, weapons and counterfeit items. And things that are not safe to ship (like flammable items).

3 Keys to a great listing:
Take good photos — the more the better. Shoppers like to see your items from every angle.
  • Make the first photo your best. It will be front and center in your listing.
Describe the item fully — including everything from condition, flaws, color, size, category and brand can increase the likelihood that it will sell.
  • Use brand name. Shoppers tend to search by brand and product name, like “Apple iPhone” or “Coach handbag”.
Price fairly - set a price that is in line with other listings on the app. Search similar listings to see what an item like yours sold for.
  • Include shipping. Items with shipping included sell up to 5x faster.

You can choose to use the Mercari prepaid label or purchase your own label with tracking. New to selling? We recommend using the Mercari prepaid label.

If you choose to use a prepaid label, we’ll email you a printable shipping label when your item sells.

Your item sold. Now what?

We’ll email you a printable shipping label once your item sells (unless you select to ship on your own). As the buyer will be eagerly awaiting their purchase, we ask you to ship the item within 3 business days.

Next steps:
Package the item with care so it arrives safely. Attach the shipping label.
Ship within 3 business days using a valid tracking number.
Confirm your shipment in the app.
  • Experiencing a delay? Let the buyer know via a transaction message. The buyer can cancel this transaction if the item is not shipped on time.

Get Paid

Item delivered. Now what?

Once the carrier informs us that the package has been delivered:

The buyer has 3 days to confirm the item is as specified and provide a rating. If the buyer hasn’t submitted a rating after 2 days, we’ll send them a reminder. And if the buyer doesn’t rate you after 3 days, we’ll give you a rating so you can get paid.
You then rate the buyer.
Funds are added to your balance. You can use your balance to treat yourself to any of the millions of items on Mercari. Or you can cash out by going to My Page > Balance >

Buy with confidence. Mercari does not release the payment until the item is delivered and the buyer confirms it is as specified. If an item received is not as described in the listing, the buyer may request a full refund within 3 days of receipt of the item.

Got questions about the item? You can always chat with the seller in the app prior to purchase.

  • We recommend asking the seller about defects, rips, tears, dents, stains, odors, or other damage prior to purchase.
Purchased an item. Now what?
Sellers have up to 3 business days to ship your item. We suggest reaching out to the seller if your item is not shipped by then.
We’ll let you know when the item has shipped. This includes the tracking number so you can track your delivery.
Item delivered? Rate the seller within 3 days. Take a moment to inspect your item when it arrives.
  • If the item is delivered as specified, rate your seller. The rating releases payment to the seller.
  • If you don’t rate the seller within 3 days, Mercari will issue a neutral auto-rating on your behalf.
  • If there’s a problem, don’t rate the seller. Rating the seller completes your order. Contact us in the app instead.
Your transaction is now complete. Enjoy your purchase. All sales are final after the buyer has rated the seller.
