Our team is always trying to find new ways to make exchanging items even easier. This means at-home pickups, same-day delivery, and a curated list of items you’ll love.

Selling on Mercari

Whether you’re decluttering your home or looking to make some money, selling your stuff on Mercari is fast and easy. We recommend opting into messages from our team to stay up-to-date on your listings and orders.

What you can sell

You can list almost anything that can ship. Check out our list of Prohibited Items to know what we don’t allow in the marketplace.

Starting a listing

Listing an item is simple. Take some photos, write your description, and add a brand name.

Taking good photos

  • We recommend using natural lighting to capture the item’s color.
  • Be sure to make the first photo your best – it’ll be the first thing a shopper sees.

Describing your item

  • Include the condition, color, size, category, and any flaws the item might have.
  • Add the brand name if you have it – lots of shoppers search for specific brands.

Pricing it right

  • Check out similar sold listings to see what your item might sell for.
  • Set up Smart Pricing from the listing page. Just name a start price and a floor price – we’ll gradually lower it based on market demand.

Picking a shipping option

When you list an item, we’ll recommend a shipping weight and the cheapest carrier option in that weight class. You can choose to cover shipping yourself or have the buyer pay at checkout.

Mercari labels are covered with up to $200 Shipping Protection and are a flat-fee for all 50 states. Plus, you’ll save an average of 30% off retail rates.

If you’re shipping something oversized, bulky, or fragile you’ve got options.

Your item sold. What’s next?

When one of your items sells, we’ll email you your Mercari prepaid label. We ask that you ship the item within 3 business days so the buyer can get their order on time.

Pro Tip: Weigh the item in its packaging. Shipping costs are based on the total size and weight of the package.
  1. Package the item with care

    Package the item with care so it arrives safely. Attach the shipping label with the tracking number. You can look through our packaging guidelines for the best tips.
  2. Ship within 3 business days

    Include a tracking number with your shipment if you choose to ship on your own. Ship within 3 days of sale. If you’re shipping on your own, you’ll need to provide a valid tracking number.
  3. Confirm your shipment

    If you're experiencing a delay, let the buyer know. Once the carrier has your package, tap “I’ve shipped it” from your Order Status page.

Getting paid

Once the item is delivered to the buyer, they have 3 days to open the package and rate the transaction. If they run into any issues, they can contact us through the help center.

We’ll remind the buyer to rate you. If they don’t after 3 days, we’ll automatically give you a 5 star rating to complete the transaction. Then you’ll get paid!

You can cash out your balance in minutes with Instant Pay. If you don’t mind waiting a few days, you can also request a direct deposit from your balance page.

To access your balance, go to your profile page > Balance.

instantPay

For Instant Pay, you’ll need:

  • A valid debit card
  • A valid government-issued ID
  • An ID Check badge

Note: Instant Pay is only available in the latest version of the Mercari app.

directDeposit

To cash out, you’ll need:

  • A valid bank account with the account holder’s name
  • A checking account number
  • A routing number

Shopping on Mercari

You can find thousands of deals on your favorite brands in the Mercari marketplace. We have authenticated handbags, brand new kitchenware, outdoor activities, and so much more.

Finding that perfect thing

Browse thousands of items in the marketplace by searching with keywords or filtering by brand. Save your searches and we’ll send you updates on similar listings.

Once you’ve found something you love, you can chat with the seller to get more info.

Like an item if you want to save it for later – we’ll let you know if the price drops. We’ll also add items you might like to your “For you” tab in the app under “Likes.”

Purchasing an item

Found the perfect thing? Add it to your cart to complete your checkout all at once. If you’re looking for a better deal, you can make an offer to the seller.

We ask sellers to ship out orders within 3 business days.

Buyer protection

Receive your item as described or your money back for eligible orders. Learn more here.

Accepted payment methods

We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay. You can also pay for all or part of your purchase with Mercari credit or by using your Mercari balance.

Currently, Mercari can’t accept payment methods which were issued outside of the United States.
