Afternoon Tea was a pursuit of the 19th Century upper class. Introduced by the Duchess of Bedford in 1840 as a means to stave off hunger until the evening meal. 

The Boyds Collection Ltd. began as an antiques shop in the home of its founder, chairman emeritus, and the "Head Bean", G.M. Lowenthal and his partner (now wife), Justina Unger (Lowenthal).
