From the Fleer Greats series that year, card #6. VINTAGE raw ungraded HOF, who was arguably the best and fastest pitcher of his time. Held the strikeout record for decades w 3,509 until modern players came along. Clean VG acceptable card, has tape stain top and bottom. A little o/c t-b and r-l. No writing. No crease. Fantastic card to have of an old-time legend Hall of Famer who pitched in Babe Ruth's day. 417 career wins, 2.17 career ERA! Won 33 games in 1912 and 36 the next year. Once had 42 complete games in a season. Good hitting pitcher hit .433 in 1925 and .348 his last year in 1927. 24 career HR. The grade is given without regard to centering. Elected to original HOF class in 1936. 2x MVP, led league in Wins 6x.

Doc Gooden was the best pitcher on the planet in the summer of ’85. The numbers certainly back up such an assessment. His 24 victories (including 14 in a row), 268 strikeouts, and microscopic 1.53 ERA all led the major leagues. The latter figure was the second-lowest (post Deadball Era) behind Bob Gibson’s 1.12 mark in 1968. His 276 innings pitched and 16 complete games led the Senior Circuit.

Sabermetrics have clearly shown that Gooden’s 1985 season was indeed one of the best in history. His WHIP of 0.965 was second in the NL that year only to the Cardinals’ John Tudor. Using the Wins Above Replacement formula developed by BaseballProjection.com’s Sean Smith, Gooden topped all of baseball in 1985 with a WAR of 13.2. Since 1900, only two players have had higher figures. Deadball pitcher Walter Johnson’s was 16 in 1913, and 14.6 in 1912. Babe Ruth’s was 14.1 in 1923.

This is a 1912 T202 Hassan FRANK CHANCE Card!  This card is in Fair to good Condition. My grandfather was a collector and he took very good care of his collection!

Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel is saluted in this extremely rare pin that measures 3.5" in diameter. It reads: "CASEY STENGEL 1910 - 1960 FIFTY YEARS IN BASEBALL N.Y. 12 YEARS N.Y. 10 PENNANTS." The front is in EX condition and there is some finish loss to the back. Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel - who actually wore the uniform of all four New York teams (Yankees, Giants, Dodgers, Mets) - began his career as a minor league outfielder in 1912 and actually lasted until 1965 as Mets skipper.
