Description
Vintage promotional mortar and pestle commemorating Frederick II's Edict of 1240, issued by Schering for Coricidin (copyright 1978). Solid brass/bronze finish with detailed eagle head handles on either side and an embossed griffin/heraldic crest on the front of the mortar. Pestle is stamped "Coricidin" along the shaft. Comes with the original folded paper insert explaining the historical significance of the Edict of 1240, considered the "Magna Carta of Pharmacy," printed by Schering. Solid, heavy piece with great detail and patina consistent with age. A nice display piece for pharmacy collectors, apothecary decor, or anyone interested in medical/pharmaceutical history. Paper insert shows some creasing and edge wear from age but is fully intact and legible. Measures approximately 5-6 inches tall (mortar), pestle approximately 6 inches long.
