An antique Whiting & Davis enameled metal mesh flapper purse, likely dating from the Art Deco period of the 1920s or 1930s. Whiting & Davis, a well-known American manufacturer of high-quality mesh bags since the late 19th century. The purse exhibits classic Art Deco characteristics, including the use of fine metal mesh, vibrant enamel colors & a drop/fringe bottom. It is often referred to as "Dresden mesh" due to a specific fine-mesh technique acquired from a German manufacturer in the 1910s. The enamel pattern features abstract, watercolor-like or geometric designs in a multi-color palette that may include hues of green, brown, orange, and black.
