Traditional Uyghur Khushtar Decorative Bowed Lute

Description

This is a traditional Uyghur bowed lute known as a khushtar (also spelled hushtar or khushter). Hand carved from wood with extensive geometric inlay throughout the body, neck, and headstock. The level of detail is unusually high, especially around the soundboard, tailpiece, and peg area. The bow is included and matches the instrument stylistically. The instrument is not set up as a performance instrument. The bridge is not original, and overall it should be considered primarily a decorative or ethnographic piece rather than a fully playable musical instrument. Best suited for display, study, or collection. Very good overall vintage condition. Inlay work is largely intact with minor age-related wear. Finish shows light handling marks consistent with age. Bridge is a later replacement. Bow hair is present but not prepared for playing. No major cracks or structural damage observed. Approximate dimensions: 17.5 inches long 5 inches wide 4 inches deep
