Effective July 28, 2025, Mercari is introducing new, lower shipping prices for light and small packages. You can now save about an additional 6% off our standard rates for packages that are 1 cubic foot with the longest side under 22 inches.
How to unlock the “Best rate” on your listing
As of July 28th, to qualify for the "Best rate" on your listings, please select one of the following shipping options:
- Confirm your item is smaller than a shoebox: When prompted, select "Yes" to confirm your package is smaller than a standard shoebox.
- Enter dimensions within carrier limits: If you select "No" to the Shoebox Question, you'll be asked to provide package dimensions. The "Best rate" will automatically apply if your package is 1 cubic foot or less, AND its longest side is 22 inches or less.
The "Standard rate" will apply if your package dimensions exceed these limits, or if no dimensions are entered. To avoid additional shipping fees, always provide accurate dimensions.
USPS Media Mail and First Class Envelope have a standard flat price based on actual weight, though the dimensions must be still be within the required limits for each service.
Does Mercari provide a suggested “Best rate”?
Mercari's system may suggest shipping weights, including for the "Best rate" option. However, it is your responsibility to confirm the accuracy of this estimate and make any necessary adjustments.

- What is the new Best rate shipping option?
Starting July 28, items that meet the size requirements (up to 1 cubic foot and longest side under 22 inches) will apply for lower Best rate pricing across all shipping carriers (USPS, UPS and FedEx) and weight classes. Our Best rate pricing offers an average of 6% savings vs. our current Standard rates.
Best rate is ideal for packages smaller than a shoebox. For larger items, Standard rates will apply and pricing will be based on dimensional weight to help generate an accurate label.

Even with USPS rates increasing by 7.4% on average, Mercari prepaid labels rose just by 2% on average and still offer average of 40% savings** compared to retail carrier rates. Our labels include single-priced shipments nationwide to avoid cost fluctuations caused by distance-based pricing and buyer location. Plus, all Mercari labels include up to $200 in Shipping Protection and up to $20 for First-Class Envelope.

- What do I need to do to access the Best rate?
Starting July 28, sellers will be prompted to confirm their package size during the shipping selection process when listing an item. If the box or mailer is smaller than a standard shoebox, or measures under 1 cubic foot with the longest side 22 inches or less, a Best rate will apply.
